The Imaginary Artsploitation Films Catalog: # 1 - Pink Flamingos (1972, Director: John Waters) There is no better film for my first acquisition in the Imaginary Artsploitation Films Catalog than John Waters’ Pink Flamingos. This no-budget classic has all the elements of what makes a movie an artsploitation classic. It has Controversy: An evil couple kidnaps young women, impregnates them with the sperm of a gay butler, then sells the babies to lesbian couples, and then uses the proceeds to peddle pornography and drugs to school children. There is Edie (Edith Massey), the undies-wearing, overweight, learning-disabled gal, who lives in a playpen and longs for gifts from the Egg Man. And of course, there is Divine gobbling up the warm fresh feces from a little doggie on the streets of Baltimore. It has Violence: There is a mock trial lorded over by the vengeful transvestite Babs Johnson (Divine), which ends in the bloody executions of Raymond (David Lochary) and Connie Marble (Mi...

Chilean Trauma and Agentinean Luciferina Acquired for North America

South Ame rican Horror Comes to Artsploitation Films   Chilean   Trauma   and   Agentinean   Luciferina  Acquired for North America Philadelphia, PA - Two wildly innovative horror films, first screened at Ventana Sur in Buenos Aires, have been acquired for distribution by Artsploitation Films who plan to release them in 2018, first in select film festivals followed by Blu-ray and VOD. Trauma , directed by Lucio A. Rojas ( The Wicked Woods ) is a vicious and shocking tale which blends the dark history of 1970s Chile with a modern tale of horror. A boy is traumatized when he and his mother are tortured by the Nazi-like military dictatorship of Pinochet. Decades later a group of women venture to the idyllic countryside for a weekend of fun. But their outing soon turns nightmarish when a man and his son unleash their pent-up rage on them. A film which exposes the horrors of politics with the evil that can l...

Killbillies featured on The Harvey and Bob Show

The Harvey and Bob Show -- Episode 513 Sometimes the universe is capable of providing some goodness and light. This week, El'Ahrai and John provide reviews of "American Pastoral" and "Comfort"! But wait, there's more! We also have an interview with "Reparation" writer/director Kyle Ham! People want leadership, Mr. President, and in the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand. Listen Now KILLBILLIES Proving that the American South does not hold a monopoly on sexually depraved, bloodthirsty hillbillies, Killbilllies (aka: Idyll) depicts a harrowing tale of abduction, violence and hoped-for survival. A group of fashionistas from the city, including models Zina and Mia, make-up artist Dragica and phot...

The Anatomy of Monsters on Sale, November 15th, 2016

Image
American Indie The Anatomy of Monsters,  a Gritty Serial Killer Romance, to be Released  on DVD & VOD   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November, 2016  - Philadelphia, PA Dark, disturbing and unpredictable, this indie thriller revolves around a seemingly normal yet homicidal young man who ventures out one night in search for prey. At a lonely bar he meets a young woman, takes her to a hotel room, ties her up and prepares for the kill…until he discovers the woman harbors secrets far worse than even he could imagine. What unfolds is a diabolical game of cat and mouse, and a soul bearing confession of love and death. Byron C. Miller, seemingly inspired by the gritty indie filmmaking of 1960s era John Cassavetes, Jim Jarmusch’s  Stranger Than Paradise  and Gus Van Sant’s  Mala Noche , directs this unnerving tale of murder and amorality wrapped around an unconventional love story. INITIAL CRITICAL RESPONSE "A subtle type of terro...
